</a><br /> <br /> On the eve of the 2009 APEC Summit meeting in Singapore, Hidehiko Nishiyama, Director-General for Trade Policy, METI and the chairman of Japan’s APEC in 2010, highlights issues to be discussed at the summit and challenges to be met. Among these, Mr. Nishiyama cites three pillars on which economic growth and prosperity in the region depend: proliferation of FTAs among APEC member countries, achieving sustainable growth throughout the region, and impediments to growth in Asia such as social instability and security concerns. <p>Learn about traditional and contemporary Japanese architecture with a Japan Society educator and make your own model house. This program is held in conjunction with the Open House New York (OHNY) Weekend, which showcases exemplary structures in all five city boroughs over two days. Children will explore the Society's distinctive building, designed in 1971 by Junzo Yoshimura, and respond through a craft activity.<br /> <em><br /> Admission is free.
