location:   370 Amapola Avenue #110
Torrance, CA 90501

The Go For Broke Educational Foundation is a nonprofit organization that institutes educational programs focused on the heroism and history of the Japanese American soldiers of World War II, as well as the internment and civil liberties issues raised by those events. Currently its programs include An American Story Teacher Training Program, Hanashi Oral History Program, and Web site www.GoForBroke.org.

Teachers are trained through workshops to teach lessons of patriotism and civil liberties, using the example of Japanese American WWII veterans. Curriculum guides and lesson plans are being developed to facilitate classroom instruction. The Hanashi Oral History Program videotapes histories of veterans for use in curriculum development and media projects such as the documentary "A Tradition of Honor." Started in 1998, Hanashi has approximately 90 volunteers. Its goal is to capture 500 interviews by the end of 2004.

The Educational Foundation knows the importance of learning tools on the Web. www.GoForBroke.org was launched in 2001 and will relaunch in the fall 2003 as the leading online resource for teachers, students, and the general public to learn more about the veterans. It will incorporate the oral histories and other interactive featuresA Resource Center will also open in the fall to meet the demands of the many who wish to research the veterans' background.
The Go For Broke Educational Foundation was established in 1989 as the 100th/442nd/MIS WWII Memorial Foundation to build the Go For Broke Monument located in Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles at Temple and Alameda streets. The Monument has etched more than 16,000 names and stands as an eternal tribute to the heroics of the segregated Japanese American units who served overseas during World War II. It is the first of its kind on the mainland U.S. and was unveiled in June 1999.
