Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team
The Asian Pacific AIDs Intervention Team currently provides HIV/AIDS prevention, education and outreach, case management, treatment advocacy/education, and mental health (support groups and ounseling) programs, all designed to be culturally and linguistically appropriate for Asian and Paciifc Islander communities.
Initiated as a program by Asian Pacific Lesbians and Gays in 1987, APAIT sought to care for APLG members dying of AIDS. As the epidemic spread throughout the larger API communtiies, a need was felt to teach about HIV/AIDS and to assist those who were infected and affected. In 1991, APAIT became a separate nonprofit organization under the parnt agency Special Service for Groups, Inc. (SG) and today remains a nonprofit commnity-based organization.
