Slant: Bold Asian American Images
Now in its 3rd year. Slant: Bold Asian Americna Images delivers a strong sampling of current Asian American cinema, visual art, music and literary work. Forget Jackie Chan and Jet Li. These works are homegrown and explore the expressions of Asian Americans. This small multi-disciplinary festival is devoted to showcasing contemporary art by Asian Americans and building an audience for that work. The films are presented by the Aurora Picture Show, a nonprofit microcinema housed in a former church built in 1924. Known as Houston's "Film Church," the Aurora still has church pews. Many of the films screened at Slant are making their Texas premieres. The festival takes place each May.
