Native New Yorker, Actor, director, writer, producer and SALAAM Theatre's Founding Artistic Director, Geeta Citygirl is a theatre aficiando whose personal and creative ideals use art as a catalyst for change in every arena, from the political to the spiritual. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and City College of NY, her work as a theatre professional and activist were recognized when she addressed the 2002 CCNY Honors Convocation the as the Guest Speaker (previous speakers include author Walter Mosley and Richard Schiff from TV's the West Wing). Recent reviews from "Democracy in Islam" at Theater for the New City (closed December 2002): Theatre critic, John Patrick Gallagher says, "the rouser spot is a monologue by Geeta Citygirl that cuts through the creative in a very straightforward presentational manner and lays it for you -- chapter and verse. And she delivers it with poise and pathos. Her performance is so strong and convincing that even you, Mr. President or John Ashcroft might finally get it." (from in-nyc.com) Backstage's critic J.C. Miller says, "Adding to the cultural mix is Fauzia's lesbian daughter (a wonderfully serene Geeta Citygirl), whose girlfriend is a political firebrand from a rival branch of Islam." - Backstage < back to listings |
