South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!)
South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!) founded in 1996, is the first and only organization in the United States providing comprehensive youth development services to young people of ages 11-19 from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Guyana, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Trinidad. For the past five years we have been successfully empowering young people and providing them access to opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them. This is central to our mission of creating social change and opportunities for South Asian youth to realize their fullest potential.
We offer a range of programs in academic support, college and career preparation, leadership development and organizing skills, safe space activities, as well as group and individual counseling. The organization currently provides it services at its main center in Elmhurst, Queens and at four local high schools. This past year, SAYA! reached over 400 youth from the Queens neighborhoods of Elmhurst, Corona, Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Flushing, Astoria and Richmond Hill.
